I finally got my first appreciation photo! This was a custom monkey I made for my teacher Cesar, by the request of another student. I made the monkey wear a rolled up button up shirt and a little poodle just like Cesar! And he sent me this pic in return! HOORAY! The monkey's name is: Maestro CesitaSunday, January 18, 2009

BRUCE
So this monkey was one of the first ones I'd ever made, and he was certainly the first i've ever made with a mask. He was particularly tricky because the batman sock that i used was really tempermental. I had to cut it deeper than usual in order to get the limbs to look right. He took two days to make and complete.
Ryan came up with a great bio for this little guy:
BRUCE hails from Gotham City, where he was raised by one of the city’s most prominent, and wealthy, citizens. He studied martial arts and gadget design under his mentor, with whom he shares a first name. As a result, he’s both a creative inspiration and a devoted little companion…capable of kicking some butt if necessary.

Charlie the sock monkey
So I decided to try my hand at making an accessory for a monkey. And I thought, glasses are good! I tried a few options and finally settled on wire wrapped in some green yarn. It took forever to shape it... I'm thinking pipecleaners next time!
Here is the little bio for him:
Charlie grew up with aspirations to become an astronaut and explore outer space. Having not yet reached those goals, he decided to leave his home in suburban Alabama and explore the world, instead. He’d love a companion willing to show him around and introduce him to new people…and new experiences.

Albert the sock monkey
Here is Albert the baby sock monkey. Out of all my monkeys I feel like he has one of the sweetest faces that I could have asked for. I employed a new sewing placement technique to give him dimples! My boyfriend Ryan came up with a nice bio for him too!
ALBERT is an only child, and while very friendly and curious, he's never been the outgoing type. A shy and introverted fellow, Albert needs an amicable and courageous soul to convince him to leave his comfort zone and explore all that the world has to offer. For the right person, there's nothing Albert won't try.
Albert is available on etsy!

First time for everything.

Welcome to my Sock Safari blog! I recently became interested in sock monkey making when I saw my very crafty sister making them. She promptly would picture message me all of her newest creations, so I thought, I should send some of my own pictures back to her. Hence the beginning of the obsession. I work mostly in baby socks, but also do the occassional large monkey. It became such a hobby that after my boyfriend's cubicle could take about all it could :) I decided to open my own store on etsy! www.socksafari.etsy.com I'll be posting individual blogs about each of my monkeys that already exist, and as they come into existence. (wow that was a lot of existence in one sentence) I hope you like them!
